We built this because we had four Google accounts and no space.

Gyggle started as a shell script. One of us had 190 GB of photos spread across an old college account, a personal account, and two work accounts — and was paying Google $9.99/month for 2 TB they didn't need.

The script got a UI. The UI got encryption. The encryption got a manifest format. Then other people asked for it.

We're a small team. We think storage is a commodity and the rent-seeking on top of it is absurd. We're not trying to beat Google. We're trying to make the free tier usable.

Principles

  • Portability over lock-in. Everything you put in Gyggle, you can take out with a script.
  • Architecture over policy. We say we can't read your files because we actually can't.
  • Honesty over growth. Our FAQ tells you the ways this could go wrong.
